FDJ = Freie Deutsche Jugend = Free German Youth. This is the communist youth group in East Germany. The part of the FDJ for younger children was the JP = Jungpioniere = Young Pioneers. These organizations are equivalent to the HJ in that they were both centrally operated by the government. There are also items included on this page that are from East Germany (DDR), but are not FDJ. Obviously items on this page were not manufactured before 1945, as the DDR did not exist until after that time. Nevertheless all items on this page are guaranteed original items.

This is an FJD trumpet banner about 18 inches square. It shows a good bit of ware including a couple of repairs, one about 1.75 inches and one about 1/2 inch. Two of the loops that would hold it to the trumpet are missing. Still an attractive and nice cotton trumpet banner. |

This FDJ trumpet banner is in nearly perfect condition. It has a printed FDJ emblem sewn onto one side. On the back is chain stitched in blue and white information probably about a company and perhaps a location. Since all of the companies in East Germany were state owned, these flags (that would look like commercial advertisements if a similar type of thing were to show up in the US) were actually closer to state-sponsored political propaganda. This is of course what you would expect from a state sponsored political organization like the FDJ. The trumpet banner appears to have been subjected to only very light use. Perhaps it was used only once for a special event or an anniversary. |
